The training focused on Gender, Human Rights, Trafficking in Persons, Smuggling of Migrants, and Referral Mechanisms, aimed at strengthening the capacity of female officers to effectively respond to trafficking and smuggling cases.
Delivering remarks on behalf of UNODC, PROMIS project, Ms. Abimbola Adeyomi, Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Officer, underscored the strong partnership between UNODC, GID, and NAATIP, reaffirming UNODC’s commitment to supporting The Gambia in combating trafficking in persons and the smuggling of migrants.
Our able Executive Director of NAATIP, Mrs. Isatou Dabo, emphasized the importance of the training, noting the critical role female officers can play on the frontlines in combating of human trafficking and the protection of victims. She encouraged participants to cascade the knowledge gained to their colleagues to enhance institutional response.
Also speaking at the event, the Deputy Director General of the Gambia Immigration Department, Ms. Oulay Jallow Cham, urged participants to take full advantage of the training opportunity. She expressed appreciation to NAATIP and UNODC for their continued support and collaboration in building the capacity of female officers and went further to officially declared the training open.
This training forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen inter-agency collaboration and enhance national capacities in addressing trafficking in persons and migrant smuggling, with a strong focus on gender-sensitive approaches and victim-centered responses.
