Today, NAATIP conducted a comprehensive training session for 20 media personnel from the Gambia Press Union drawn from various media houses across the country. This training was designed to strengthen the capacity of journalists and media practitioners in understanding and reporting on Trafficking in Persons (TIP), which remains a serious national and global concern.

During the session, participants were taken through the mandate, functions, and strategic role of NAATIP in combating human trafficking in The Gambia. Facilitators also provided a detailed explanation of the elements of TIP, helping the journalists better identify and differentiate trafficking cases from other forms of exploitation.

A major highlight of the training was the discussion on the crucial responsibility of the media in shaping public understanding, amplifying the voices of survivors, changing the attitude of the public, and supporting the agency in its preventive initiatives. Journalists were encouraged to adopt ethical, sensitive, human, and victim-centered approaches when reporting on vulnerable individuals, especially victims and potential victims of trafficking, to avoid retraumatization and protect their dignity.

This initiative forms part of NAATIP’s broader efforts to foster strong partnerships with the media sector and strengthen national awareness on the dangers and realities of human trafficking. By empowering the media with the right knowledge, NAATIP continues to enhance collective action toward prevention, protection, and justice for all affected persons.
