Today, the National Agency Against Trafficking in Persons (NAATIP) conducted a sensitization visit to Imam Malick Islamic Institute as part of the launch of its nationwide school outreach campaign on Trafficking in Persons (TIP).
The session brought together students, teachers, and members of the school administration in an engaging and informative discussion designed to raise awareness about the realities and dangers of human trafficking. During the engagement, the NAATIP team provided an overview of who we are as an institution and highlighted our four strategic pillars (the 4Ps): Prevention, Protection, Prosecution, and Partnership in combating trafficking in The Gambia.
Key areas discussed included:
• The definition of trafficking in persons and how it occurs locally and internationally
• Common recruitment and deception tactics used by traffickers, especially targeting young people
• Warning signs and risk factors that increase vulnerability to trafficking
• Practical safety measures students can take to protect themselves and others
• The critical role of teachers and school authorities in early detection and prevention
• Reporting mechanisms and how to safely report suspected trafficking cases
Students were encouraged to remain vigilant, seek guidance from trusted adults, and report any suspicious approaches or situations. NAATIP reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening collaboration with educational institutions and communities to ensure that young people are informed, alert, and protected from trafficking threats.
We sincerely thank the administration of Imam Malick Islamic Institute for their warm welcome and cooperation in supporting this important initiative.
Together, we can end trafficking in persons. If you see something, say something.
