The programme began with opening remarks from the vice president Mr. Lamin Darboe on behalf of the Executive Director of GOVI, who warmly welcomed the NAATIP delegation and expressed appreciation for the continued partnership between our two institutions. In his remarks, he highlighted the importance of ensuring that persons with visual impairments have access to critical information that protects their rights and safeguards their future.
A keynote address was delivered by a Representative of the GOVI Board of Directors, who commended NAATIP for taking an important and inclusive step in making anti-trafficking information accessible in Braille. He emphasized that awareness is empowerment and encouraged students to take full ownership of the materials, using the knowledge gained to protect themselves and educate others within their communities.
In her address, the Executive Director of NAATIP expressed sincere gratitude to the GOVI Board, the Principal, teachers, staff, and especially the students for their warm reception. She reiterated that access to information is a fundamental human right and that disability should never be a barrier to protection. She encouraged the students to make effective use of the Braille materials and to share what they have learned with their friends, families, and colleagues.
She further noted that GOVI has been a long-standing and valued partner in promoting inclusion and awareness, and that this initiative marks another important milestone in strengthening collaboration. She concluded by stating that this is not the end of our journey together, as we deepen our collective commitment to ensuring that no one is left behind in the fight against trafficking in persons.
NAATIP remains committed to working with partners across The Gambia to protect vulnerable groups, promote human rights, and ensure that every individual, regardless of ability, has access to life-saving information.
